Graywood Developments unveils new Distillery District mixed-use project

TORONTO—Graywood Developments recently released plans for The Goode, a new 32-storey, mixed-use residential development in Toronto’s Distillery District.

The name is a nod to the historic Gooderham & Worts, once one of the largest distilleries in the world. In addition to being located in the historic district, the residence is also within walking distance of the ongoing Port Lands redevelopment, which includes 25 hectares of new parks, green spaces, a naturalized river and new island to the east end.

Additionally, the proposed Ontario Line will connect residents to 15.6 kilometres of new subway service in Toronto, including a new stop in Corktown, which is less than a five-minute walk from the site.

The development is designed by Toronto firm architects-Alliance which created the original residential masterplan for The Distillery District.

“It’s a privilege to have been part of the development of one of the largest assemblages of industrial heritage buildings in Canada,” said Peter Clewes, managing partner and design director with architects-Alliance, in a statement.

“We’re proud to be back at The Distillery District designing a new extension along Parliament. The Distillery has emerged as one of the most desirable residential neighbourhoods in the city, while realizing its vision as a flourishing cultural and entertainment centre.

“It’s been rewarding for us to revisit our initial concept – while individual design expressions evolve over time, our underlying design principle is constant: to preserve the soul of this remarkable place.”

The Goode’s architectural design complements the existing character of the neighbourhood and symbolizes a next era for the district, indicates a release, adding on the tower, repetitive metal bands frame windows on every other floor, breaking up the massing and getting more granular with height, while a pattern of windows adds texture to the exterior.

Amenities include a multipurpose room, a co-working area, a fitness studio, a bicycle repair room, a makers table and a pet wash. A large roof terrace with a swimming pool and rooftop garden stand atop the 10-storey podium overlooking Distillery Lane.
